Established in 1903 Le Tour De France is the 3rd largest sporting event in the world. The race itself this year covers 3664km and 20 to 22 teams of nine riders compete for the coveted yellow jersey each year. An estimated 12 million spectators of all ages line the route to watch the famed publicity caravan and to support the cyclists. The Tour de France is essentially split into two groups: the publicity caravan, which is made up of the vehicles immediately in front of the peloton; and the race convey, which contains the peloton and the vehicles behind. On Monday 7th July the 3rd stage of this years tour will be in Essex and its residents will have a unique opportunity to view this unique sporting spectacle.
