Bellway, the renowned housebuilder, has generously sponsored the Chelmsford Diwali Fair, contributing a significant £1,000 to the event. This free public celebration of Diwali, a festival symbolising the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance, was held at the Beaulieu Community Centre in Centenary Way.
The event was organised by Beaulieu Socials, a group of residents from the new Beaulieu district. The fair was a delightful mix of live DJ music, traditional dance performances, and arts and crafts sessions for children. Attendees could also enjoy face painting and browse through a variety of stalls selling clothes, jewellery, and a delicious range of street food.
Narender Sharma, one of the fair organisers, expressed gratitude towards Bellway Essex for their generous contribution. He said, "We approached the company at fairly short notice for help in funding the free event and Bellway was very receptive and gave us £1,000."
The funds were used to cover various costs associated with the event, such as hiring the centre, paying for the DJ, live music artists, marshals, and the clean-up operation. Sharma added, "Thanks to donations, such as the one from Bellway, we were able to stage the event as a free festival to allow everyone who wanted to come to join in the fun."
Emma Hawkins, sales manager at Bellway Essex, was delighted with the event's success. She said, "Diwali is a very important festival and is designed to bring together the whole community in a spirit of joy and mutual understanding. We were very happy to be able to play a part in enabling this celebration of the festival to take place in this vibrant new neighbourhood."
The Chelmsford Diwali Fair was a testament to the community spirit in the area, and Bellway's contribution was instrumental in making it a success. The event has set a precedent for future celebrations, promising more joyous community events in the years to come.
