A recent study by Electric Tobacconist analysed the 60 largest towns and cities in England and Wales, focusing on 11 key stress indicators. Despite the financial pressures some residents may face, Chelmsford emerged as one of the healthiest regions. With less than 3% (2.8%) of its population reporting poor health, Chelmsford ranks as the third healthiest region in all of England and Wales.
However, it's not all rosy in Chelmsford. The city's residents appear to be significantly concerned about debt. Internet searches about debt per 100,000 population reached 4051 times, placing Chelmsford as the second-highest region where people are worrying about it. This could be attributed to the high travel fares into London or the ever-increasing rent prices in the city.
Despite these challenges, Chelmsford continues to be a desirable place to live. It was named the most upbeat place to live in Essex between April 2022 and March 2023, thanks to its picturesque landscapes, excellent amenities, and convenient proximity to London.
Chelmsford's appeal has been further enhanced in recent years due to significant investment into its retail spaces, which host many of the biggest household name brands. The city's train station, a key commuting hub, has also received substantial upgrades, making travel to nearby London even more convenient. With a new train station on the horizon, Chelmsford is set to further cement its status as a commuter's dream and a healthy haven.
