Outdoor experts at Blacks have conducted research considering factors such as the number of trails, the percentage of moderate and hard trails, and the elevation of trails. Chelmsford earned a hiking hot spot score of 8.7 out of ten, making it a must-visit for hiking enthusiasts.

The city is home to 15 walking trails per ten kilometres squared, with 62% offering water views and 59% featuring routes with wildflowers. From the 7.7km round trip around Pleshey Castle to the more challenging 23.5km Galleywood Common Route, Chelmsford offers a variety of trails to explore.

Moreover, Chelmsford also boasts Hylands Park which offers several different routes for hikers, dog walkers, and event-goers. With its diverse landscapes and stunning natural beauty, it's no wonder Chelmsford has been named among the best places in the UK for hiking.

While Chelmsford ranks tenth, other cities like Brighton and Hove, Plymouth, and Derby also made it to the top spots. Each city offers unique trails and breathtaking views, making England a fantastic destination for hiking.
