De-cluttering tips to help present your property to its potential

If you are keen to present your property to its full potential, you will need to de-clutter. You want to create as much space as possible when you present your home, and this means you need to get rid of items that make your home look untidy or take up valuable space.

As with any task you do, it is often useful to create a list of the rooms that you want to clear out and include any maintenance that needs to be carried out. If there is a sentimental or value item that needs to be kept, write this on your list or place it somewhere for safe keeping. Once you start the de-cluttering process, you want to be as ruthless as possible so if you know that there are some items you need to hold on to, be proactive in listing what you want to keep.

Clearing out your home can seem like a long and uninspiring task at times but ticking off rooms or tasks as you go breaks the project down, allowing you to complete the job in stages.

Have a plan of action for decluttering your home

Focusing on one room and finishing that room before you move on to another makes perfect sense and you’ll also find that moving logically through a room will help retain your focus. This means that you start at one end of a room and continue the de-cluttering process until you reach the other end and have removed everything that needs to be removed. Working with a plan and focus should speed up the process and minimise the likelihood of being distracted.

With respect to clearing out items, if anything is broken or damaged and isn’t worth your while repairing, be sure to dispose of it straight away. If you haven’t used an item in a long period of time and the item doesn’t hold value or any sentimental worth, get rid.

Make a decision to keep, throw or even sell

Many people find it hard to throw items away because they often think that the two options are to keep or throw out. By providing yourself with a third option, where you may be able to make a profit or you can help someone less fortunate than yourself, you are more likely to remove the items from your property. This can be a useful tip but you need to make sure that you follow through with your promise to sell or give items away; there is no benefit to creating this pile and then retaining the items.
