Daisy Taylor, a lively 105-year-old resident of Chelmsford, believes the secret to her longevity is yoga, daily stretching, and a deep appreciation for life's "little things". Daisy's zest for life is infectious, and her story is a testament to the power of staying active and maintaining a positive outlook.
Born in Leytonstone, East London, in November 1919, Daisy has always been a vibrant spirit. She's held a variety of roles throughout her life, from working in machinery to managing a bakery and several cafes. She met her late husband, Ray, at a social event when she was just 19, and together they built a beautiful life, raising three children and sharing hobbies like travelling, dancing, and attending theatre shows.
Daisy moved into Care UK’s Manor Lodge care home in Chelmsford in April 2022. Despite the change, her love for movement and fitness didn't wane. She regularly partakes in yoga and dance classes, and starts each day with a good stretch. Daisy's favourite yoga pose is the standing half-moon pose, which she says gives her a "good stretch" and keeps her mind sharp.
Daisy’s passion for staying active has even inspired her to encourage her family and friends to exercise more. She believes in the importance of keeping moving and cherishes the life she leads. "I don’t like sitting in the chair too long," she says, adding that she enjoys fresh air and the simple pleasures of life.
In November, Daisy celebrated her 105th birthday in style, with a party thrown by the care home staff, complete with a specially crafted birthday cake. She says she "absolutely never" imagined reaching this milestone age, but longevity seems to run in her family – her sister Alice, who also lives in the care home, is 103, and their five other siblings all lived into their nineties.
Daisy's story is a heartening reminder of the power of positivity, the benefits of staying active, and the joy of appreciating life's simple pleasures. Here's to Daisy, and her inspiring approach to life!
