The popular Young Driver training scheme is expanding its reach with a new venue at Sandon Park and Ride. This comes as a response to the high demand at their existing Chelmer Valley site. The initiative aims to teach youngsters, starting from the age of four, essential driving skills in a safe and controlled environment.
Young Driver offers 10-17 year olds the chance to get behind the wheel of a real car under the guidance of an approved driving instructor. For the younger crowd, under 10s can enjoy driving the specially designed Firefly Sport electric car at selected venues. The Sandon site will be transformed into a realistic road system, complete with traffic signs, roundabouts, and junctions, providing a perfect setting for youngsters to practice various driving skills and manoeuvres.
Lessons at the new Sandon location will kick off on Saturday, August 10, and will be available on selected weekends and school holidays throughout the year. The focus of these lessons is on safety and fun, encouraging young drivers to develop responsible driving habits. They will have ample time to master essential skills such as gear changes, braking, and steering without the stress of public roads.
Sue Waterfield, head of marketing at Young Driver, expressed her excitement about the new venue: “Our Chelmer Valley Park and Ride site runs on a Sunday and is very popular. We’ve been searching for a Saturday venue for a while now. This new site offers local people more flexibility with dates and allows us to offer a variety of driving activities for young people, whether they’re beginners or have had a few lessons already.”
The scheme also offers driving tuition for disabled youngsters. Lessons for 10-17 year olds must be booked in advance, with prices starting from £42.99 for thirty or sixty-minute sessions. This extended training period helps create safer drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, while also boosting the confidence of teens and pre-teens.
